The Fortunate Isles, Champs Elysées, Garden of Hesperydes, Atlantida... were the first descriptions found in Ancient Greek and Roman documents on the Canaries. It was an Archipelago of volcanic origin, inhabited by the Guanches, a very tall race, pale-skinned, which lived in the cliffs and in small communities with round-shaped houses. In 1496 they are added to the Kingdom of Castille, following a number of violent battles in which the bravery and noble character of the Guanches was much praised. It was at that same time when the ships of Christopher Columbus stopped at La Gomera before starting their trip in search of the New World.
